Fabric love #8

lucky girl
Jennifer Paganelli Lucky Girl - Amazingly beautiful!

lucky girl
Gorgeous pink and grey colorway with beautiful floral print

Jade green makes a lovely contrast against the fuchsia, red, yellow and light blue prints

lucky girl
I love the intensity of the turquoise and yellow floral prints and my favourite would be the navy background colour in contrast with the lovely pink/red floral print.

This is my first Jennifer Paganelli fabric bundle and I can understand why her fabrics are loved by quilters and crafters.  These prints and colours have such a wonderful charm and beauty that it feels like a modern chinoiserie romance.
I am looking forward to be playing around with these beauties next year.

Thank you for stopping by!

Fabric Love #7

Robert Kaufman
Modern Bliss by Andie Hanna

This line was picked by the a client for a commissioned baby quilt.  Personally it would not be my first choice of fabric line to choose.  However, as I worked on the quilt, the more it grows on me and I love it!  It's fresh, modern (as the name suggest) and delightful!  Perhaps the attractiveness of the colours has something to do with the arrival of Spring where the fresh and vibrant colours are starting to make an appearance after a long winter season.  I am so looking forward to warmer weather now.

I will be finishing up this quilt this coming weekend as school term 3 starts next week Boo!  The school break has been blissful as I spent my evenings after work and weekends working on quilts that I have on my 'Quilts to make list'.  I am just glad that there are no deadlines on this list but one of leisure and enjoyment.

These F8 bundle was purchased from:

De-stress with some fabric love

AMH
It's that time of the year again - the dreaded exam week is looming very soon.  So to do de-stress, I did a little fabric shopping at Westwood Acres (the best kind of de-stress other than chocolate in my opinion).  Amanda has lovely fabric bundles and I couldn't resist the Anna Maria Horner (AMH) mixed voile bundle and her latest Hand Drawn Garden Fat Quarter bundle.  I also bought a Fat Eight bundle of Full Moon Lagoon with in mind to make a twin size quilt for my God-daughter when I am on school break - watch this space!  The little mini charm pack was a nice surprise from Amanda - definitely made my day!

Here's a close up of Hand Drawn Garden bundle.  The colors and prints are amazing, feels very boho like.  So looking forward to cut into it.

Thank you for stopping by and apologies for a short blog - squeezing in some fabric love time to share with you all in between work and studies.  Happy quilting and crafting!

Fabric Love #6

I was after some stripey fabric for a baby boy quilt that I will be making once my exam is over.  Found this fat quarter bundle on Etsy which I thought was pretty delightful and cheerful for a baby's quilt.  I have in mind a relatively simple modern quilt design, here's hoping it will turn out the way I imagined it.

Here are some lovely stripe bundles from Etsy:
West wood acres (really nice stripe bundle)
My Fabric Addition (this where the stripe bundle came from)
Vintage Sheet Variety (reclaimed vintage bed sheets)

Happy Quilting!

Fabric Love #5

Fabric Love #4

Bloomsbury collection

Bloomsbury Gardens by Liberty Lifestyle - what more can I say other than I have been swooning over this fabric collection for the longest time.  It was hard to decide which palette I wanted to go with as all of them were so beautiful.  I had to practiced a lot of restrained from going crazy ordering the entire collection as my piggy bank wouldn't have survived the trauma.  That aside, I am really happy with the selection that I had made.  I went with a mixture of natural brown and pastel blue and pink tones.  I think the color tones will make a soft neutral with a hint of pink and blue quilt which I can't wait to start designing for.

Happy quilting!

Paper + Fabric

Who would have thought using paper and fabric together would result in a lovely quilt?  That's right, I am talking about English paper piecing (EPP).  I have seen some lovely examples in the blog world and have always been in oohs and aahs about them.  So I thought I would give it a go myself.  It was not as daunting as I thought it would be once I figured out the size of the diamond template I want, go through the tutorials and Viola! I have made my very first star EPP.
The fabric combination are endless and I think it is a good way to experiment on different fabric colours, designs and texture that you never thought could look good together, or to use up your scraps from other projects.  I found a few great blogs that has really good tutorials on EPP and some really beautiful EPP quilts for inspiration.

Fabric Love #3

Dresden quilt
I have selected shades of yellow, orange, pinks and red fabrics  for a Dresden quilt that I am going to make next.  The fabric consist of designers such as Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane and Bijoux, Denise Schmidt's Hope Valley, Amy Butler's Midwest Modern and Daisy Chain, and Volari Wells' Nest.

Mood board
The Dresden quilt was one of the most popular design during the 1920's - 30's.  It's been one of my 'To do' list of quilts after seeing a contemporary example in the book Material Obsession.  Above is a mood board that I put together for some inspiration and ideas for the quilt.

Dresden Quilt
As I have finished Surprise Quilt no.2 I have started on the background fabric for the dresden plates on the weekend.  So far it's looking as I have planned it to look and I have tried my hand at paper piecing (my very first time).  It took a little experimenting and getting my head around paper piecing but eventually I go there.  Here's hoping to get as much done so that I could hand stitch the dresden plates onto the background fabric whilst on holidays.

Sneak Peak 2

Surprise Quilt no.2 is currently at quilting stage.  I have OD on the safety pins but I figured no harm with over basting as it prevents it from shifting too much.  I have decided to ditch quilt so that it showed the HST configuration more prominently.  Also shown is the backing fabric in Bijoux Swirly Buds Gold by Heather Bailey.  I will post up more picture of the finished quilt once the recipient have received it.

Social Shopping

Quilts

I was reading Oh Joy! blog yesterday and tested this new app called Luvocracy that she has recommended.  It is at its infancy stage (only launched a few weeks back).  It's very similar to Pinterest where you pin stuff that you love, but in this case, you pin stuff that you would recommend for others to shop.  It's like making a catalog for various items that you think it worthy of your taste for others to consider purchasing.

Quilts
In a nutshell, Luvocracy is about -
1. Recommending products that you really admire
2. Adding stuff that you love to your collection for others to see and shop
3. All stuff are available for purchase via Luvocracy
4. When you buy something recommended by someone, you get to thank that person and also help that person to earn rewards.

Quilts
I have added some products, mainly fabrics (for now) from various online shops that I have been admiring both local and abroad.  Some of the fabrics that I have recommended on the website are fabrics that I hope to purchase to add to my existing collection.

This is an exciting concept and it'll be interesting to see how it pens out - do test and check out Luvocracy.  I would be interested to hear what you think about this new concept.

Fabric Love #2

I was going through my fabric box and I found these beautiful Japanese prints.  They were gifts from my brother when he traveled to Japan many years ago.  There are many beautiful Japanese fabrics out there but I have always found it a struggle to use such distinct and beautifully printed fabric.

Japan
The questions I constantly ask myself when I start on a new quilt are:
1) How do I best showcase the fabric?
2) What pattern/design would best bring out the prints?
3) To whom would I use this fabric for in a quilt?

Japan
At the moment, I am still searching for a design that I could incorporate these lovely fabrics as part of a quilt.  I am hopeful that some day that inspiration will come.
